Allentown Brew Works

With the success of the Bethlehem Brew Works, the Fegley Family decided to turn the old and abandoned Harold’s Furniture Store Building, on Hamilton Street in downtown Allentown, into the Allentown Brew Works.

The HVAC for the building was design/build by Burkholder's Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. A chilled water cooling system was selected due to the lack of exterior ground space or substantial roof areas for DX condensing units. Another factor was the large amounts of outside air required by the Ventilation Code. A chilled water system can handle the high percentage of outside air through the air handling units better than DX refrigeration.

The chilled water is produced by a York 80-Ton, air cooled chiller. The chiller is located at the rear of the building above the loading dock for structural reasons and to keep the noise of the chiller remote. The chilled water is pumped through base mounted, centrifugal pumps to six (6) air handling units with discharge gas duct furnaces for heat.

Each of the two (2) Dining Areas, the basement Nightclub and the two(2) Kitchens have separate air handling units supplying conditioned air through exposed spiral ductwork that added to the aesthetics of the spaces.

The 3rd floor Banquet Hall also has a separate air handling unit, but the ductwork is located above the ceilings for a more formal look.

The Main Offices and the 3rd and 4th floor future spaces are conditioned by separate, small tonnage, DX split systems with gas furnaces.

The facility has been opened for over a year now and it appears the Fegley’s have another success.
